You find accounting difficult because you do not see how it relates to your life. Accounting has laws, it has a community of practitioners, it's disciplined and it's an age old practice. It's not cool it's not swag. It's a way to earn a living. If you learn to love these laws you'll become the best most disciplined accountant. And probably rich while you are at it, not by putting it in practice yet by seeking asking and knocking on doors until you gain the correct understanding of accounting. How it relates to the business owner. To the government to society and to you to your teacher and to your fellow accountants. The hard part is understanding. Someone will say that a credit means positive and someone will say that a credit means negative. And if you listen to both persons you will be lost. You must discipline yourself on seeking out the answers. Why you want to know must be answered before you say what it is you want to know. The why is you.

Well said, James.

The rules of accounting sometimes don't align with our view of things. It can seem counter-intuitive at times. However, you'll find this in many fields. Just embrace what works and run with it--even if it doesn't make sense at first.

The good news is, with accounting, the computer is doing most of the work. All that stuff you're doing by hand in school is mostly done by accounting software. They just want you to have a general understanding of the underlying principles. That being said, the more you know what's going on "behind the scenes" in your accounting software, the more valuable you'll be to a large company. This opens the possibility of lucrative positions within publicly traded companies.

At the end of the day, you need to know what you'd like to do for work, regardless of how difficult it is to learn. If you are truly passionate about sales, for example, you can overcome the fear of talking to people. If, however, your heart isn't in it, you won't have the drive necessary to overcome the obstacles between you and a successful career. I know it sounds trite, but find a career you love and you won't work a day in your life (because you'll enjoy it more).
